Portfolio – Sustainability and Innovation: The Casnati Art High School at Interfilière Paris with Penn Italia

The project, featuring students from the Centro Studi Casnati‘s Art High School – fashion program in collaboration with Penn Italia, brings the fusion of innovation, sustainability, and high fashion to life. The company, a leader in producing high-quality lace and fabrics, presented a collection at the prestigious Interfilière Paris trade show that combines elegant design with eco-friendly materials, responding to the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the textile industry.

At the heart of the project are the new “Light Powerlace” fabrics, which blend the lightness and durability of technical materials with the refinement of traditional lace. These fabrics, certified under the Made in Green program, offer breathability, supportive structure, and innovative three-dimensional effects while focusing strongly on customization and environmental impact reduction.

Representing Casnati’s emerging talent, fourth-year students Chiara Alari and Jessica Millich created a complete outfit consisting of a slip, a romantic t-shirt, and a long kimono, showcased at the Penn Italia stand in Paris. This project not only allowed them to engage with industry professionals but also demonstrated how classroom-acquired skills can translate into high-level real-world experiences, enriching their personal portfolios and expanding their future career opportunities.

Project-Based Learning and STEAM: Educational Innovation at Casnati

Students’ involvement in a high-profile international event such as Interfilière Paris is a prime example of Project-Based Learning (PBL), a methodology that places students at the center of the educational process through real, multidisciplinary, and problem-solving-oriented projects. In this context, STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) play a key role, blending creativity and technical skills to develop innovative solutions sustainably.

The educational path at Casnati’s Art High School integrates these principles, offering students tangible opportunities to collaborate with leading companies, work with advanced materials, apply eco-design concepts, and experiment with new textile technologies. This approach not only fosters creativity but also prepares students for the challenges of the professional world, aligning with the mission of Casnati for ESD, which promotes education focused on sustainability and innovation.

The Future: Milano Unica and Beyond

The success of Interfilière Paris is just one step in a broader journey: Casnati’s Artistic High School students also worked on designing and creating exclusive garments for Milano Unica, the international textile and fashion accessories fair held on February 4-6, 2025. The collaboration with companies like Penn Italia and Eurofiniss demonstrates how learning through real-world projects is crucial for preparing professionals to enter an ever-evolving job market.

This synergy between school and industry is the engine of CasnatiHUB, the innovation incubator of Centro Studi Casnati, where education merges with professional practice to create top-tier training experiences. Through this approach, students become active agents of change, contributing to a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.
