Casnati for ESD
Casnati for ESD is a youth-focused program developed by the Centro Studi Casnati that was born in the autumn of 2022 from an idea by Ms. Quartesan, in collaboration with the Global Schools Program (an initiative of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the didactic implementation of the Education for Sustainable Development, i.e Mission 4.7).
The ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) model implemented by the Casnati High School aims to report – through the experience of its students and teachers – on Sustainable Development by transmitting ideas and spreading inspiration.
Centro Studi Casnati
The Centro Studi Casnati (CSC) is an Italian educational institution that, for over 50 years, has been offering state-of-the-art curricula. It has several study pathways (secondary school): Language high school, Art high school, Scientific high school, Hotel Management School, and Aeronautical Institute. Students enrolled are about 800.
Often, in the territory of Como, the CSC has played a pioneering role in joining projects and initiatives that have become widespread, such as the recognition as a Cambridge International School or the introduction of the Liceo Game Development learning path at the Applied Sciences Scientific Lyceum.
Since the 2022/23 school year, the CSC has been among the top 5 schools in Italy to join the Global Schools Network and the 1300 signatory schools to the School Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals from 89 countries around the world.
Global Schools Program
The Global Schools Program (GSP) is an initiative of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) which, under the auspices of the Secretary-General, has supported since 2018 the UNESCO Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
In particular, Global Schools, in collaboration with UNESCO, the Center for Sustainable Development – Columbia University, the SDG Academy, and the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, has launched Mission 4.7, a new task force to promote and accelerate the implementation of the ESD at the level of ministries of education, governments, and schools.
The goal of the GSP is to create a world where every primary and secondary school student acquires the awareness, values, and skills needed to respond effectively to the rapid transition to the increasingly urgently needed models of sustainable production and development.
The Advocates for the Global Schools Program are teachers and educators, selected and trained by the Global Schools Program Team, who lead its national and local implementation, planning, and ensuring the long-term educational integration of ESD. The 2022 cohort includes about 300 Advocates from 80 different countries, including Ms. Quartesan, Science Teacher and Coordinator of the multidisciplinary department “Civics teaching” at the Centro Studi Casnati.
